On the brink of 60, we are setting up to live the next third of our lives with strength and gusto. 
 
In January, two years ago, looking and feeling much older than 57, I followed my sister-in-law, Joan, into a gym to meet with Svetlana, her personal trainer.  Working as a fashion designer's studio model over the years, Joan had maintained her physical appearance, but wanted to work on flexibility and endurance.  I had some serious strengthening to do.
 
After a body age assessment, Svetlana launched both of us on personal programs over the next few months that had me discard forever the 3 lb weights I had first struggled to curl.  A natural athlete, Joan's stamina increased rapidly.  We met with Svetlana once a week, and we followed up at home.  My weight - a holdover from twenty years of career stress - dropped one pound each week, eventually stabilizing at thirteen pounds less.  Joan rigorously followed Svetlana's valuable nutrition coaching.  Joan says, "I didn't understand anatomy, but Svetlana's discussions about nutrition brought it home for me."  Joan has gone from a studio model size 10 to size 4.  In the early days, during the first two minutes on a stationary bike, the pain in my knees was unbearable, and I would stop.  Svetlana worked at building my quads and strengthening my legs.  Today, my knees are pain-free, and biking is a favourite cardio warm-up. 
 
Joan and I train together, and we have found it's good to have a buddy for mutual support.  As we became stronger, we increased to two training sessions per week.
 
It hasn't always been easy.  In the early days I struggled with wanting to quit.  With Svetlana's support, I am able to recognize my negative feelings are simply part of a cycle that I can keep in check by eating well and maintaining my exercise routine.  Though when we started working out, Joan and I both had symptoms of post-menopausal discomfort, all of the symptoms have disappeared.

 
Having Svetlana as our personal trainer has made all the difference.  Her expertise in building strength and well-being in women over 50 is extraordinary.
 
Today - though almost 60 - our body ages are 46.  People often tell Joan and me that we look great - a wonderful boost.  But what we value most is that we feel strong and fit, and ready for our active lives.  As Joan says, "There's no going back."  Here's to the next 30 years!

“Michael and Svetlana Pelletier are a wonderful team, whose different skills compliment each other! It is because of their expertise, dedication and consultative approach that I now have relief from hideous pain to my lower left back and left leg. I am also stronger than I have been for many years. I had been to the medical doctors and the physiotherapist and was on medication for half a year but was only getting partial and inconsistent relief. For a number of sessions, they kept assessing what was causing the pain and adjusting their exercises until they figured it out.
